Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") form a binding agreement between you and Pan African Social Infrastructure (Pty) Ltd t/a Hekima Africa ("Acedemy", "we", "us" or "our"). They govern your use of the Acedemy mobile app and the acedemy.co.za website (together, the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. About the Service

Acedemy is a learning and exam-preparation platform for Grade 12 Mathematics. It offers bite-size lessons, practice sessions, timed past-paper exams, progress tracking, XP, streaks, badges and leaderboards (national, provincial, school and friends).

2. Eligibility

• The Service is intended for learners, primarily those in Grade 12 in South Africa.
• If you are under 18, you may only use the Service with the permission and supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.
• You must provide accurate information when registering, including your province and school.

3. Your account

• You may sign up with an email address and password, through Google sign-in, or (in the version distributed through Huawei AppGallery) with your HUAWEI ID. If your HUAWEI ID uses the same verified email address as an existing Acedemy account, you will be asked for that account's password once so the two sign-in methods can be linked without creating a duplicate account.
• You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for everything that happens on your account.
• Tell us immediately at support@acedemy.co.za if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.
• One account per learner. Accounts are personal and may not be shared, sold or transferred.

4. Acceptable use

You agree that you will not:

• cheat, exploit bugs, use bots or automation, or otherwise manipulate XP, streaks, exam scores or leaderboard rankings;
• create multiple accounts to gain an unfair advantage;
• copy, scrape, redistribute or commercially exploit any lessons, questions, exams or other content in the Service;
• upload or share anything unlawful, harmful, harassing, hateful or otherwise objectionable, including in display names and avatars;
• impersonate another person or misrepresent your school or identity;
• interfere with or disrupt the Service, its servers or other users' enjoyment of it; or
• use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

5. Exams, scoring and leaderboards

• Exam scores are calculated using a weighted model that combines your raw marks with question difficulty. Scoring is verified on our servers.
• Only submitted exam sessions count towards leaderboards. We may invalidate scores or remove accounts that we reasonably believe were obtained dishonestly.
• Your display name, avatar, XP, streaks and scores are visible to other learners on leaderboards as described in our Privacy Policy.
• Leaderboards, XP, streaks and badges are motivational features only and have no monetary value.

7. Intellectual property

• The Service, including its design, logo, lessons, questions, artwork and software, is owned by or licensed to us and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
• We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your own personal, non-commercial learning.
• You keep ownership of content you submit (such as your profile photo), but you grant us a licence to use it as needed to operate the Service (for example, to display it on leaderboards).

8. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the Service available and improving, but we do not promise uninterrupted access. We may add, change or remove features, content or curriculum coverage at any time. Where practical, we will give notice of significant changes.

9. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, misuse the Service or create risk for other learners. On termination, your right to use the Service ends and your data will be handled as described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by South African law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages — including lost data, lost marks or exam outcomes — arising from your use of the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute arising from them will be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
